Awnings & Slide Topper

Awning and Slide Toppers are great convenience items to have on your RV.

If they are protected and maintained, they can provide you with many years of great service.

Common RV awning failures include fabric rips, water pooling, and electrical or motor failure, which are typically triggered by wind gusts, sun degradation, or low battery voltage. Addressing these issues early helps prevent structural damage to your camper.

Inspect them should be done on a month basis if you are living full-time in your camper. If you utilize your camper periodically, make a point to do this when you are preparing to go on a camping trip.

Fabric and Structural Damage:

• Tears and punctures: Caused by aging materials or tree branches. Small rips can be patched using Camco Awning Repair Tape or similar adhesive films.
• Sagging canopy: Happens when water pools during rain. Just 3 inches of water adds over 200 pounds of weight, risking complete collapse.
• Broken arms or loose mounting: Caused by high winds twisting the metal support hardware or lag bolts pulling out of the RV sidewall.

One of the biggest failure points is campers forget to retract them at night or when they leave their camper. Sudden storms can damage or destroy our awnings in just a few moments.

Insure you secure your awnings whenever you leave your camper or go to bed.
