RV Electrical Systems

RV electrical systems can be incredibly frustrating because you're essentially dealing with two (and sometimes three) completely different electrical systems packed into one moving vehicle.

To help you troubleshoot, it helps to narrow down where the issue is originating. RVs run on a combination of 12V DC power (like a car) and 120V AC power (like a house).

The 12V DC System (Battery Power) Symptoms include Dim or flickering lights, slide-outs moving slowly or not at all, water pump failing to turn on, or the radio resetting.

This system runs your lights, water pump, slide-outs, carbon monoxide detector, and the control boards for your fridge and water heater.

Some of the electrical issues may be:

• 12 Volt Battery Problems
• Converter or Inverter Issues
• GFCI plugs Tripping
• Loose connections on the 12 Volt or 110 Volt side

The 120V AC System (Shore Power / Generator) This system runs your air conditioner, microwave, standard wall outlets, and residential appliances.

Symptoms: Outlets have no power, the A/C won't turn on, or the appliances is dead.
